Q: I've been at this job since then end of May. I work in a cubicle so I get to hear anything and everything that goes on inside the office. There is a man about 20 feet from my desk who is constantly clearing his throat and it is driving me insane! He is a very nice man but it is getting to be quite annoying. I'm not exaggerating, he clears his throat every 10 to 20 seconds all day, every day. At first I thought he was sick but there's no way he has been sick this long. I can't block him out because I don't have a door or anything. How can I escape his maddening noises? I'm desperate here and I don't want to be rude! HELP!
A: as someone who suffers with year round allergies and nasal drain, i can feel his pain as i have to do it quite often as well. sometimes it can become habit. i would anonymously leave some throat lozenges on his desk, maybe he'll get the point. or do you work a job where you can have some music playing (on the radio or headphones)? the music can help drown out the noise. besides that, i'm not sure there's a whole lot you can do! sorry
