Q: i am an assistant teacher for our school's special ed class, so there is me, the teacher, and the "job coach" who we'll call ms. X in the classroom together. ms. X sits around all day and helps out maybe 10% of the time, the rest of the time she's talking on her cell, on the comp, reading magazines, whatever. the principal (and head of the district) is not a nice person, but will not do anything about her and won't give an explanation. she is a woman of color and we think he doesn't want a law suit even though it wouldn't hold up in court. is there anything we can do without "causing a scene" and putting our own jobs in jeopardy?
A: I, myself, do not see what is so funny about the term, "woman of color" but the posting (Nikki93) above seems to find it humorous. It was not meant to be funny. Is there any way that you can write her up? Do you have access to the write up policy? Why not assign specific duties, pull rank and tell her that cell phone (personal calls) are no longer allowed and any future violations will be documented accordingly. At least, it will scare her. What does a "job coach" do, anyway? (Well, typically?) why not ask that she be reassigned somewhere else?
