C.V help: How should a Covering Letter end?

Q: ...in yours sincerely or faithfully? Thanks for the help all! Hmm thanks everyone - its so important, that if people do it wrongly the employer gets annoyed so they dont get the job. Serious.

A: If the letter is "Dear Sir/Madame" then it ends "yours faithfully". If the letter is "Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms/Dr/Rev Smith" then it ends "Yours sincerely". "Faithfully" is for when you don't know the name and "Sincerely" is for when you are writing to a named person.
