After a job interview, how acceptable is it to send a thank you note through e-mail rather than by post?

Q: To Fannoula: Obviously I did say Thankyou to the interviewer face to face. I'm talking about a "Thankyou note" where you send a letter about how you're right for the job and to address any more questions raised during the interview, AFTER you've had an interview on the same day - so please do not patronise me.

A: It is acceptable especially if you are applying for a tech job. Remember that you are trying to set yourself apart from all the other job candidates AND keep YOUR name in the mind of the person who interviewed you. If most people send via email, your name may standout if you send a handwritten thank you note. Why not both?
